From Vikings to the Digestive System – Year 4’s Action-Packed Week
Year 4 certainly ended Term 4 with a bang, enjoying a packed week of hands-on learning and exciting experiences across the curriculum.
Monday saw the culmination of their Design & Technology food unit, as the children got stuck into baking the biscuits they had carefully planned. Armed with tasty additions such as chocolate chips, marshmallows, and sprinkles, they measured, mixed, rolled, and shaped their dough with great enthusiasm. The results were as delicious as they were creative, and the children were rightly proud of their culinary efforts. There was a real buzz in the classroom, and many are already looking forward to more cooking opportunities in future topics.
Tuesday brought a brilliant change of pace with Viking Day. The children arrived dressed in fantastic Viking outfits and spent the day immersed in themed activities. They made traditional brooches and headed outdoors for a lively game of Viking vs Anglo-Saxon capture the flag under the spring sunshine. The day was a wonderful way to celebrate all they have learned in their history topic this term, bringing the era to life in an interactive and memorable way.
Thursday ended the week on a scientific note, as Year 4 explored the digestive system through a practical—and slightly messy—experiment. Using bananas and cream crackers, the children simulated the journey of food through the stomach, small intestine, and large intestine. Reactions ranged from amazement to mild horror, but all agreed it was a fascinating and unforgettable way to reinforce their learning about teeth and digestion.
It was a fantastic week that perfectly wrapped up a term of curiosity, creativity, and fun.
